正月初五迎接财神这一天，大家可以打扫和清理房间，把过年期间积攒的垃圾和各种杂物都丢弃，以干净整洁的状态迎接财神爷的到来。

送穷神

破五节在迎接财神之前，人们还有一个送穷神的活动。有些地方会扎小人，在人偶的背上制作背包，将垃圾放在里面，连同小人一扫出家门，代表着将穷神赶走。还有的人会摆上贡品，焚香默念请穷神快快走。

将穷神送走之后，就是要准备迎接正财神的仪式。首先将供桌放在大厅内，注意面需朝外，将五色瓜果供奉于桌子上，再放上五杯清茶，点燃长明灯，焚上香烛，之后击锣鸣鼓，正式磕头敬拜。

正月初五迎接财神也有包饺子，吃汤圆，寓意着未来一年的事业和生活顺顺利利，财富滚滚而来。

不出门访客

大年初五虽为请财神的日子，但只适合全家人聚集在一起活动，不宜外出访友，否则会被认为破坏或者带走他人的好运。因此破五节最好是待在自己的家中，切勿出远门或到访亲戚家。

开业开市

正月初五迎接财神的同时，也是开业或者开市的好日子。人们通常会大开店门，按照供奉财神的仪式，将财神爷的神像请到店内。在店内供奉的时候，大家需要注意在财位上点燃长明灯，且必须保持财位的干净，这样才能够迎来好运和财运，帮助店内保持生意兴隆。
